Totem, for 4 Violas

During the first containment due to the Covid 19 pandemic, the musicians were suddenly unable to play with each other. I then had the idea of writing a series of pieces to allow musicians to reach a sense of ensemble through re-recording.
I also had in mind those pieces for 4 violas from the baroque period, although there is no musical influence from that time.
The 4 viola voices are written in equal parts. It's the accumulation of these 4 forces that constitutes the idea of the Totem. It made me think of these totems built on a pile of different faces.
I thank Cécile Del Medico and Sabine Delille for their valuable contribution. Composed in March 2020, this piece lasts 8'20 minutes.
