Brett Dean, longtime violist of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, was commissioned by the International Max Rostal Competition for Violin and Viola 2012 to compose an intimate, highly virtuoso work which lives up to the significance and meets the requirements of this major international competition. The price for the best interpretation was awarded to Johannes Pennetzdorfer.
