The German violist Hartmut Lindemann, born in 1953, is widely acknowledged as being one of the important representatives of his instrument today. His unique style comes out of a deep dedication and admiration for late 19th and early 20th century string playing and technique. As a highly informed interpreter of this musical period it would be correct to say that one can expect from him a performance that is as 'authentically' correct as it is boldly imaginative. It is also certainly true for his transcription of the Brahms Sonata op.78.

Lindemann completed his studies under Prof. Rainer Moog in 1980 with the 'Konzertexamen' at the Staatliche Musikhochschule Köln. During his years of study, he received additional tuition from Yuri Bashmet, Bruno Guiranna, Max Rotsah, Sandor Vega, Tibor Varga and members of the Amadeus Quartet.

Lindemann's professional Career as a violist, has included principal-positions with the Nordwestdeutsche Philharmonie, the Festival Orchestra Tibor Varga (including giving the world premiere of the Jean Daetwyler Concerto), the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and guest principal with the Australian Chamber Orchestra. Lindemann performed as a soloist with the Melbourne and Tasmanian Symphony Orchestras, the Australian Chamber Orchestra, the Kammerphilharmonie Amadee, the Detmolder Chamber Orchestra and the St. Christopher Chamber Orchestra Vilnius. He performed together with the Goldner and Vogler Quartets, with Geoffrey Tower, Rudolf Koelman, Charles Castleman, Paul Rosenthal, Hansheinz Schneeberger, Marco Rizzi, Mayumi Sailer, William Hennessy, Richard Tognetti, Ben Martin, Diana Baker, Rainer Moog, Young-Chang Cho, Claus Kanngiesser, and many others.

In 1997 Hartmut Lindemann excepted a professorship for viola at the Musikhochschule Detmold/Münster. From 2013 until 2016 also a professorship at the Conservatory in Izmir/Turkey. He has served as a member of the jury for the 1999 International William Primrose Copmetition in Guelph and the 2000 International Lionel Tertis Competition on the Isle of Man.
Lindemann recorded five solo CD's for the 'tacet' label.
